Week to start with rain, cooler temperatures

A chance of rain and cooler temperatures are expected today to kick off another work week.

Some parts of Southwest Florida picked up rain this morning, although clouds covered nearly all of the region. Naples Municipal Airport picked up 0.1 inches of rain this morning, which fell in the 1 a.m. hour.

Forecasters said there’s likely more rain to be had.

Partly cloudy skies are in the forecast with a high temperature of 86 degrees -- 5 degrees cooler than the average on today’s date, according to weather service records. The chance of rain today is 50 percent.

More normal summer temperatures are in the forecast Tuesday with highs in the low 90s and a heat index in the triple digits, the weather service said.

Naples picked up 1.27 inches of rain Sunday, bringing the total for the month to 7.55 inches, including this morning’s rain. The average June brings just more than 8 inches of rain to Naples, records indicate.
