The Florida Association of Counties begins its 2006 annual conference and educational exposition today at the Marco Island Marriott Resort.
The conference runs June 27-30. Organizers said more than 650 people have registered to attend the event.
Conference plans include tours of parts of Collier County, workshops, luncheons and other events.
The association was founded in 1929 to represent the concerns of Florida's county governments, and now represents all 67 counties in the state. Officials from most of the counties in Florida are expected to attend the event this week.
Among the keynote speakers this week is Thomas Monaghan, founder and chancellor of Ave Maria University. He is scheduled to speak at a luncheon Thursday.
