Warmer temperatures, earlier rain possible today

After slightly cooler temperatures the last few days, the mercury is expected to rebound into the 90s today.

Highs the last four days in Naples have topped out in the middle or upper 80s, according to the National Weather Service. The high today is expected to reach 90 degrees, which is a degree shy of the average for today’s date.

Factoring in the humidity, the heat index could reach about 100 degrees.

Scattered storms could form earlier today than is typical for the summer months. The weather service said storms are possible after 11 a.m. with partly cloudy skies.

Strong storms are possible along the Atlantic Coast, although not likely in Southwest Florida, forecasters said.

The low tonight is expected to drop to 75 degrees, then highs on Wednesday should reach the low 90s with a heat index of about 106 degrees.

A chance of storms is in the forecast each day through the start of next week with highs in the low 90s.
