Charity started to help families of deputies

Some Lee County Sheriff's Office employees are taking an extra step to help fellow public servants with the introduction of a new charity.

Ten members of the LCSO recently launched the Blue Line Fund, a charity geared toward raising money for the families of police, fire and EMS workers in the area.

Blue Line Fund president and Lee County jail corrections officer Bob Bramblet said they charity was started as away to help the families of fallen or injured deputies.

Bramblet and fellow Blue Line Fund board member and sheriff's Dep. Duane Simon have been involved in a number of fundraising events with the Sheriff's Office, including raising money for needy families around Christmas, and helping out an underprivileged basketball team in Immokalee.

The Blue Line Fund already has its first event as a sanctioned charity scheduled for next month. The Blue Line Fund Inshore Fishing Classic will be held on July 22 at Lover's Key State Park in Bonita Springs.
