Fairchild named Eagles' SID

Matt Fairchild has been named the new sports information director at Florida Gulf Coast University. Fairchild has six years of experience as an assistant sports information director.

Prior to joining the FGCU staff, Fairchild had been the assistant media relations director of athletics at the University of Central Florida. While there he was responsible for writing press releases and coordinating interviews, as well as designing, writing, and editing media publications.

He also was in charge of updating and organizing the university's official Web sites. Fairchild left this position in January of 2005 to care for his newborn son.

Before taking the position at UCF, Fairchild spent four years at Belmont University serving as the assistant media relations director of athletics. Prior to that, Fairchild was an assistant SID at the University of Tampa.

Fairchild is a native of Gainesville and a 1999 graduate of the University of Florida where he received a bachelor's degree in Exercise and Sport Science.
