The Bonita Springs Little League's 10-11 year-old All-Stars haven't been winning games, but they sure look good.

Flagman orange jerseys on top of ocean blue undershirts are making Bonita standout at the District 18 tournament, at least in the fashion department.

"We look great. These are the nicest uniforms we've ever had," said manager Jerry Bryerton.

The team's performance in their new attire has been somewhat of a struggle.

"We've got a very young, inexperienced team. They're doing the best they can," said Bryerton.

Heading into Monday night's game, Bonita had dropped its first three games of the tournament by lopsided scores against Greater Naples, Golden Gate National and San Carlos.

What Bonita has lacked in wins, they've made up for in effort.

"They haven't given up," said Bryerton. "That makes me feel good. They're trying to the end."

Bryerton pointed out that most of his players have never faced teams from other leagues, especially ones with significantly larger player pools as is the case in District 18. Getting used to faster pitching is one obstacle Bonita has been trying to overcome. The team scored just one run in its first three games.

"They're used to seeing 30-35 miles per hour in (Bonita's) park. Now, they're seeing some kids throwing 45-60," said Bryerton. "As a whole, the older kids with experience are doing a bit better than the younger ones."

On the mound, Bonita has used Robert Smith, Kristopher Bryerton, Rodolfo Sasso and Steven Briner. Manager Bryerton said he'll likely give others a chance in order for more arms to get tournament experience.

All district tournament games are being played at Starcher Pettay Field in North Naples. Bonita plays Thursday at 6 p.m. and will wrap-up action on Saturday at 9 a.m.
