Severe storm warning issued for rural Collier

Strong storms ignited across Southwest Florida this afternoon, prompting a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Collier County.

The warning was posted for north-central Collier and central Hendry countries until 4:45 p.m. The National Weather Service said radar indicated a storm capable of producing 60 mph winds and large hail.

The storm was located along a line from 10 miles east of the Hendry Correctional Institute to 20 miles south of Devil’s Garden.
