Afternoon storms possible during holiday weekend

The holiday weekend won’t be a washout, but forecasters said plenty of storms could dampen afternoon activities.

Strong heating and an unstable atmosphere will make conditions favorable for storms across South Florida this afternoon and early this evening. The National Weather Service said skies should be partly cloudy with a high temperature of 90 degrees.

The chance of rain today is 50 percent, forecasters said.

After a low tonight of 74 degrees, the high on Saturday and Sunday should reach the low 90s with partly cloudy skies and chances of afternoon storms. Rain chances will be greater toward the end of the weekend, the weather service said.

The high temperatures should reach 91 degrees on Monday and Tuesday with partly cloudy skies and a 50 percent chance of rain both days.

Records indicate the average high temperature on today’s date is 91 degrees at Naples Municipal Airport.
