Driver stabbed in carjack attempt in Fort Myers

A Bonita Springs woman was arrested Friday afternoon after she stabbed the victim of a carjacking attempt.

Fort Myers police arrested Lindsey Smith, 23, of 3550 Brinks Circle. Smith, according to police reports, opened the door of a car in the Publix parking lot at 5781 Lee Blvd. and told the driver she had a gun and to move over. When the driver refused, Smith stabbed the person several times and then ran away.

Two witnesses chased Smith across the street to a drug store where they held her until police arrived, the report states.

The victim, who had defensive stab wounds on her left arm, was treated and released from Lee Memorial Hospital.

Smith is charged with attempted carjacking, attempted kidnapping and attempted felony murder.
