The Florida Everblades are in the market for a new equipment manager for the first time in six years. John Jennings opted to step down at the end of the season.
Jennings, who had a 17-year career as an equipment manager at different levels of hockey, decided to move back to Canada and make a career change, leaving at the top of his game. He was selected to his second ECHL All-Star Game last January.
“John was an old pro and I think he just got tired of the grind of doing that kind of work,” said Everblades team president and general manager Craig Brush on Thursday. “We’re grateful for the job he did for us over the years and wish him the best.”
Head coach Gerry Fleming said he has received over 100 résumés from qualified applicants looking to fill the position, and Brush said the team is close to making a hire.
NEILSON HEADED TO ENGLAND: Former Everblades defenseman Corey Neilson, who came over from the Pensacola Ice Pilots in a 2-for-1 trade on Jan. 8, signed Thursday with the GMB Nottingham Panthers of the Elite Ice Hockey League in England.
Neilson, a 30-year-old veteran, scored 48 points (13 goals, 35 assists) in 72 regular-season games, 23 of those points (7 goals, 16 assists) in 40 games for the Everblades.
