Monday, May 8, is an extra-special day for Albert J. Michaud of Naples. He displays a Belgian newspaper from that day 61 years ago — Victory in Europe (V-E) Day.
Michaud, a summer resident of Taunton, Mass., served in the U.S. Army’s 9th Armored Division in France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany.
He was captured at the start of the Battle of the Bulge and was held in Germany until a few days after V-E Day.
He resides with his wife, Claire, at the Riverwood mobile home park off Collier Boulevard.
Last September, the couple attended a 60th anniversary observance of the liberation of Luxembourg.
The newspaper was give to him in 2004 by a Belgian who was a fellow warrior.
