I love Marco Island and do my best to be an active member of the communnity and also to try to stay informed with respect to all of the things happening on Marco Island. It is a daunting task to stay up to date with all that goes on at our city Code Enforcement Board, Planning Board and City Council meetings.
The few meetings I have attended, I have been shocked as to how much time, energy and patience our staff and electiced officials dedicate to their duties. At times, I have been appalled at the behavior at some of these meetings. I feel that we must first show respect to all of the people who run, plan and attend these meetings. Second, we must be humble and thankful for living on this wonderful island.
Look back and remember the neglect this island suffered when we were part of the county. We are a city now and must maintain and improve our island. As a business owner, I understand first-hand the inconvenience of construction and what seems like constant work vehicles, detours and dust. But I also know that this is just temporary.
We don’t need to fear progress. Marco Island is growing and that is a fact. With this in mind, we must make the necessary changes to adapt to this growth.
We have thousands of school-age children on Marco Island and the dynamics of our median age here on Marco are changing daily.
Let’s join together and applaud our paradise.
Judy Perez/Marco Island
