Sheila's Out Shopping: Just for me
Sometimes it seems like the same shoes and shirts, the same bags and scarves and skirts in every single story. So I decided to try designing and making my own shoes and handbags.
I stopped at Needlepoint in Paradise and picked up a canvas and thread for a tote. Painted canvases start at $65 and the threads total about $10. To have the purse put together in leather or canvas with handles and all the bells and whistles starts at $135. Pictured is a small tote with a birds of paradise motif and a large tote with a Key West motif.
Leaving the store I spied black thongs ($135 for finishing), red thongs ($190 for finishing) and the open-toe slide ($150 for finishing). The canvas and thread are extra.
If you like the look but don’t want to stitch it yourself, the store has a stitchery service.
Knitting with Nancy has a variety of purses that are fun to knit and you don’t have to worry about the fit. It is a win-win situation to make something that is purely yours.
The felted pink bag with flowers ($40 for wool) caught my eye for its design and bright color. I also liked the multicolor pouch made with Prism Stuff yarn ($135 approximately for yarn and handles). The rust and Burgundy ribbon purse is Nancy’s own design and uses about $65 worth of Prism Galaxy Ribbon yarn. These are just a small sample of what you can knit yourself.
