Time is up and the results are in.
The Marco Island bike path committee’s “working group” reviewed members’ Top 10 lists ranking short-term project priorities. The findings will be unveiled at today’s committee meeting.
“What we’re trying to do is coming together on a consensus,” said committee chairman Pat Neale.
The aim of the priority list is to help members figure out how to appropriately spend the $100,000 that the Marco Island City Council budgeted from the capital improvement fund toward the committee’s efforts this fiscal year.
Committee members each turned in their list before Jan. 26, and the “working group” whittled through them by giving each item a numerical value corresponding to importance.
“We weighted them by how they were ranked and then we counted the points,” said city liaison Jim Miller, who attended the working group meeting. “We came up with a list of 10 to 12 different streets in order of weighted rank.”
Neale said he looks forward to hearing the presentation.
“It’s pretty exciting where we’re going,” he said.
Also at today’s meeting, members will conduct a final review of the committee’s proposed master plan.
At the Jan. 12 meeting, members saw a nearly finalized version of the proposed bike routes map for the city, which included shared-use paths and dedicated bike lanes.
The map is being used as the base to create a bike paths master plan for Marco, which is one of the goals for the committee.
Marco Island is not the only local government trying to make bicycle riders feel more at home in Collier County.
Last year, Collier County approved its Comprehensive Pathways Plan Update, which laid out the county’s plans to make the county more accessible and safe for bike riders and pedestrians.
Also up for discussion today will be the possibility of getting shared-use path signs placed on South Collier Boulevard.
The meeting is scheduled for 9 a.m. at Marco City Hall, 50 Bald Eagle Drive.
