An 18-karat gold necklace, bracelet and earrings set valued at $12,000 is being raffled for $10 a ticket at Harbor Goldsmith. The jewelry was donated to Father Pat Boyhan. The proceeds will be used to buy food, clothing and medical supplies for girls ranging in age from 4 to 18 at San Pedros Missionaires, a Catholic orphanage, in Cuzco, Peru.
The jewelry was donated to Father Pat Boyhan and the proceeds will be used to buy food, clothing and medical supplies for the girls (ages 4 to 18) of San Pedros Missionaries, a Catholic orphanage, in Cuzco, Peru.
Rick Allen owner of Harbor Goldsmith appraised the jewelry and said it’s a heavy, beautifully made, designer piece. The earrings have omega clip backs with a post, which he said are comfortable earrings. The jewelry is on display at Harbor Goldsmith.
“This isn’t something you buy at any jewelry store,” Allen said.
“It’s high-end jewelry.”
The girls at the orphanage are cared for by three nuns and only have water that comes down from the mountains that has to be boiled before drinking. They sleep on cots and eat broth daily.
Boyhan will be going on a missionary to Peru in July. He would like to express his gratitude to all those who are willing to help this community in South America.
“It always amazes me how generous so many of the people on Marco are, especially to the missions in Peru,” Boyhan said. “The opportunity to turn some beautiful gold jewelry into food and medicine for the poor is an offer that can’t be refused.”
Checks can be made payable to Holy Apostles. Tickets can be purchased at Harbor Goldsmith, 1 Front St.; Gene’s Fifth Ave. Florist, 1081 3/4 N. Collier Blvd.; and San Marco Catholic Church’s office, 851 San Marco Road.
The drawing will be held at noon April 4 at Harbor Goldsmith.
“It’s all for a beautiful cause,” Allen said.
