Should Marco Island have bike lanes, shared pathways or a combination of both? Are bike paths even needed on Marco?
Those are some of the questions Marco residents will weigh during an open house Saturday. The city’s Bike Pathways Committee is hosting the open house, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Mackle Park, 1361 Andalusia Terrace, to allow citizens to walk through a series of proposed maps and talk with committee members on the bike path issue.
“The purpose of the meeting is to explain what we’ve done and invite their feedback,” said committee vice chairman Al Musico. “To solicit their input in terms of prioritization.”
Brief three- to five-minute presentations of the information will be provided and one-on-one discussions with committee members will be offered, Musico said.
“We’ll talk about the bike path committee, the work that has been done so far and the rationale behind what we have now,” Musico said.
Participants will also be asked to complete a brief survey about their use and needs as it relates to pathways on Marco Island, said committee chairman Pat Neale.
The committee will evaluate pathway uses in order to minimize overall city costs, reduce traffic congestion, ensure public safety, improve the environment, boost the economy, and to enhance recreational opportunities and the quality of life on Marco Island.
Saturday’s event will help the group stay on track, Musico said.
“We want public feedback,” he said. “It’s a chance to open up the discussion with the broader population.”
