Tuesday, May 8

Marco Island Line Dancers will meet from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays at Mackle Park, 1361 Andalusia Terrace. The group is for beginners to have fun and learn simple dances. The public is welcome. Call Iris Mooney, instructor, at 642-7341.

Craft Tea Ladies will meet from 1 to 3 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays at Corner Cottage, 210 Royal Palm Drive. Materials will be provided (no need to bring your own) by the Craft Tea ladies to make crafts to be sold at the bazaar. Call Sheila Miles at 394-1020.

Newcomers Club of Marco Island — women meet for lunch and socializing at 11:30 a.m. the second Wednesday of each month at the Marco Island Yacht Club, 1400 N. Marco Men’s Investment Association, a group of social investors, will meet on the second Wednesday of every month at 11:30 a.m. at The Little Bar in Goodland for a luncheon/business meeting. Stepping Through Seagrass at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at the Marco Island Library as part of its 2007 summer programs. Join author Linda Bilodeau as she tells us about her books, including Stepping through Seagrass, a novel about a doctor who comes to Immokalee, where she is the only physician for Seminole Indians, migrant farm workers and drug addicts. Linda will also talk about writing fiction and the process of getting published.

How to Prepare Your Boat for a Hurricane from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at the Coast Guard Auxiliary Station in Caxambas Park, Marco Island. This seminar will help you prepare a hurricane plan to keep your boat secure (Insurance companies expect boat owners to have a security plan). Free. Love and Other Impossible Pursuits at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 17, at the Marco Island Library as part of its 2007 summer programs. This book discussion with novel Ayelet Waldman and moderated by Gwyn Goodman, reads from novel Love and Other Impossible Pursuits, about a Harvard Law grad living in elegant comfort in New York City who loses her newborn daughter while struggling to bond with her new five-year-old stepson. This book manages to mingle wry comedy with emotional distress in a heartfelt way.

Marco Island Alumnae Club meets at 11:30 a.m. the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Olde Marco Island Inn & Suites. Tommie Barfield students will present a musical program at noon sharp (lunch delayed for this outstanding presentation). Also, the club’s birthday month will be celebrated by having all past presidents who can attend as guests. New officers will also be installed. Lunch is $22. Betty Newman’s Dancing With the Starz fundraiser from 8 to 10 a.m. at Chico’s. Ten percent of all proceeds will go toward her fundraising mission for the Art League of Marco Island.

Marco Island Woman’s Club monthly meeting at 11:30 a.m. the first Wednesday of each month at Marco Island Yacht Club. Meeting will feature the installation of new officers and the awarding of Woman’s Club College scholarships. Lunch is at noon.
