Preparing for their third year, the Marco Eagles look forward to a season with a more even playing field.
While other teams haven’t been announced, the Eagles will be playing in the Miami Extreme Division Two Football League.
Previously they played in the Miami Xtreme Football League in which, many of teams had more experience.
“We will be playing against teams that are more evenly matched this year,” Marco Commissioner Mike Snyder says. “The kids have enjoyed playing and it should be more fun when they have a good chance of winning games.”
The new Division Two will feature six to eight teams that will be more on the same level as the Eagles
“This should mean more competitive games, as well as more victories for Marco,” Snyder says.
Division Two remains part of the Miami Xtreme Football League, a division of the Orange Bowl Youth Football League and teams remain eligible for season-ending playoff matches.
Right now the Eagles program needs financial support. The Eagles are hosting a golf tournament at Lely Mustang at Lely Resort on Sunday, May 20. Entry fee is $100 a person. Teams are $400 per foursome and hole sponsorships are available at $100.
“The tournament is always a good time and helps the Eagles provide a valuable service to the kids of Marco Island,” says Duncan Wheeler, event coordinator.
The scramble begins at 8:30 a.m., with an awards luncheon to follow. The proceeds go to defray the Eagles football and cheerleading program expenses.
