Marco Island will have its first glimpse at a potential interim replacement for City Manager Bill Moss this evening during its regular City Council meeting.

Last week in a special council session Moss recommended Tony Shoemaker, who was most recently interim manger of the City of Fort Myers, to fill the role. Moss plans to split time between Marco and his new position as city manager of Naples beginning at month’s end and move to Naples full time in January. Shoemaker will be in attendance to speak with the council today.

According to Moss, Shoemaker, 67, has no interest in the Marco job beyond a temporary basis.

During the meeting, council is also scheduled to consider two proposals from city manager executive search firms, The Mercer Group and Colin Baenziger and Associates. The Mercer Group was the firm hired by Naples during its city manager search.

In other business, the council will consider the final assessment and bond resolutions and an award of contract for design of the 2008 portion of the city’s septic tank replacement program, the Kendall and Mackle Park districts.

The meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the community room of the new police building.

Prior to the regular meeting, the city will hold a closed session with its attorneys at 4:30 p.m. to discuss a potential appeal of an Oct. 25 Collier County Court decision that declared city restrictions on boat anchoring unconstitutional.

Should the city appeal, the case would then go before a Collier circuit judge.

The Daily News is consulting its attorney to determine if it will protest the city holding a closed session on the matter, Editor Phil Lewis said.

We should not take any recommendation from Mighty Moss
