Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve presents “Wing it! A Beginning Birder’s Workshop” from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Tuesday, at Rookery Bay Environmental Learning Center, 300 Tower Road, Naples.
The workshop will introduce the basics of birding including the use of binoculars and bird field guides, and the use of plumage, flight patterns, behavior and field marks in field identification. The classroom session will be followed by a field trip to a nearby park to practice new skills.

A Walk Through Time at 10 and 11 a.m., Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and 10 and 11 a.m. and 1 and 2 p.m., Fridays, is a one-hour guided historical walk along Shell Island Road for to learn about the mighty Calusas and the pioneering families of the Little Marco Settlement.
Slithering Snakes at 10:30 a.m., Mondays, is a presentation about the snakes that live in Florida and how to tell which are venomous. See a live snake as our naturalist dispels some of the myths about these slithering reptiles.

Join a Rookery Bay naturalist for a one-hour guided historical walk on Shell Island Road. Learn about the mighty Calusas and the pioneering families of the Little Marco Settlement. This free tour is scheduled to be held at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Fridays through Dec. 29 (except Thanksgiving). Estuary Tales at 10:30 a.m., Wednesdays, can take children through stories, crafts and interactive experiences for an up-close and personal visit with a medley of estuary creatures (ages 3-5 welcome).
A Sea Turtle’s Hurdles at 2 p.m., Wednesdays, will teach participants about Florida’s sea turtles and what the Rookery Bay Reserve is doing to understand more about these fascinating reptiles.
Sea Shells of Southwest Florida at 10:30 a.m., Thursdays, is a presentation about the unique array of shells that can be found on Southwest Florida beaches and how to identify them while learning about the animals that call them home.
Coastal Connections at 10:30 a.m., Saturdays, is a presentation about Southwest Florida’s flora and fauna, such as shells and snakes.
