The newest, most exciting and sexiest sports team in Southwest Florida, The Ft Myers Derby Girls, have released their season home bout dates. You can catch roller derby, yes ROLLER DERBY in Fort Myers on the following Sundays:

April 20th- Palm City Punish Hers VS Bradentucky Bombers

May 25th- Palm City Punish Hers VS Indian River Derby Girls

June 29th- Palm City Punish Hers VS Fort Myers Miss Demeaners

July 20th- Palm City Punish Hers VS Treasure Coast Roller Girls

August 24th- Palm City Punish Hers VS Broward County Derby Girls

September 21st- Palm City Punish Hers VS Tampa Bay Derby Darlins

October 26th- Palm City Punish Hers VS Bradentucky Bombers

All bouts are held at Generations Skating Center, 2095 Andrea Lane in Fort Myers (482-7789.) Get your tickets for $7 in advance and $9 at the door. Complimentary beer served to patrons over 21 with proper I.D. Tailgating is at 6pm, bout at 7pm.

The Ft Myers Derby Girls league is a non-profit organization and is made up of 2 teams; The Palm City Punish Hers and The Fort Myers Miss Demeaners. The Punish Hers is the all-star, travel team that competes against other leagues. The Ft Myers Derby Girls are comprised of dedicated women ages 21 and up from mothers to beer promoters to hair stylists to nurses and more. They are currently 30 girls strong and embarking on their first full season. All bouts are played on a flat track and all hits, fights and injuries are REAL. The Ft Myers Derby Girls follow the rules set forth by the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (www.wftda.com.) Some fun facts; There are 2 sets of sisters on the league. There is a mother and daughter on the league. They had their first bout in Bradenten last month and won.

Roller derby dates back as far as 1922 and was popularized again in the 1970’s, but the grassroots revival of roller derby began early this decade. The sport exploded after the A&E television show “Rollergirls” hit the air. Banked tracks are hard to find, so most leagues play on a flat track. The Women’s Flat Track Derby Association was formed in formed in 2004. Games are referred to as bouts. There are 15 leagues in Florida alone.
