Marco’s Short-term Rental Housing Advisory Committee meets Wednesday and is anticipated to be the final session before committee members send their recommended draft ordinance pertaining to the operational requirements for short term rental homes. The ordinance may further limit the number of people staying in a home and require registration of rental properties.
“This should be an interesting meeting. The penalties for violations will be discussed,” said committee chair Chuck Kiester.
Previous meetings often ran about three hours, lasting until about 9 p.m., while members discuss issues including length of stays allowable for short term rentals, noise, trash and other nuisance related issues. At times, the committee spent time off-track.
“I’m going to require all comments are on-issue. There were some comments in past meetings that weren’t always on target,” said Kiester, who says he believes the committee will be able to complete the draft ordinance despite past delays.
“My take on the committee is that they really want this. Most of the motions that have been made so far have been unanimous. We’ll do our best to get through it at this final meeting,” he said.
Any rules or ordinances approved by the committee must pass through the city’s Planning Board and City Council before being placed in the city’s code of ordinances.
The session begins at 6 p.m., in the community meeting room of the Marco Island Police Station, 51 Bald Eagle Drive. Members of the public are welcome.
