San Marco road closure May 1
On Thursday, San Marco Road will be temporarily closed between Covewood Street and Floral Street. Traffic eastbound and westbound will be detoured to Sheffield Avenue. The road closure will begin at 7 a.m. and is scheduled to last all day Thursday and, depending on progress, may continue into the evening. San Marco Road will be reopened to traffic as soon as work is completed and road conditions are safe.
This temporary closure will allow construction crews to install gravity sewer and manholes across San Marco Road at Sunset Street. All local residents will have access to and from their homes and delays through the area should be minor.
Residents that live on San Marco Road within the construction area will need to drive to the closest road closure point and then use Sheffield Avenue.
Residents of the Sunset North neighborhood including Starfish, Peach and Channel Courts will not be allowed to turn east on San Marco Road at Sunset North rather turn west onto San Marco Road and then use Sheffield Avenue.
Residents and others traveling through this area should be cautious, drive slowly, and obey all flagmen and signs. The City of Marco Island apologizes for the inconvenience, but the road closure and detour will allow for a much safer and faster construction period.
