Naples Illustrated magazine and The von Liebig Art Center are both celebrating 10 year anniversaries in 2008. To tie the celebrations together a collaborative effort was launched and a call-to-artists was announced. Members of the Naples Art Association and artists wishing to become members were invited to participate in a photography related exhibition with a theme of “10.” The resulting exhibition features 29 works relating to or exemplifying ten.
Olga Gustine and Reynaldo Martin served as jurors and selected artwork for the exhibition. Both are directly involved with Naples Illustrated Magazine. Gustine is the Design Director for Palm Beach Media Group, the parent group of the Naples Illustrated. With more than 25 years experience in the publishing industry, she has a great love for the creative process and a keen eye for outstanding visual media.
Martin is Art Director for Naples Illustrated. He is an advocate of quality design, particularly the elegance of typography and beauty of photography.
10 Illustrated is installed on the first and second floors in the Elizabeth and William Barrick, Millicent and Charles Marshall, Elizabeth and Alan Harris, John H. and Lucile Harris Foundation and Minnesota Lobby Galleries.
Jurors’ Statement
When we embarked on this idea of celebrating the 10th anniversaries of Naples Illustrated and The von Liebig Art Center with a photography exhibit, none of us knew just what to expect. How pleased and surprised we are with the results: a diverse, creative, thoughtful study and celebration of 10.
In making our selections for the exhibit, we considered texture, relevance, composition, creativity and execution. With a theme such as this, relevance is key, and we eliminated some beautiful works because the connection to 10 wasn’t evident or explained. Then, we looked to balance the show with a variety of approaches and interpretations. As artists ourselves, we know the heart and soul that goes into each work, and we are honored that so many artists chose to celebrate our anniversaries with their interpretations.
We toast all the artists who entered this exhibit, and wish them, The von Liebig Art Center and Naples Illustrated many more decades of beautifully illustrating life in Southwest Florida.

Emily James: “The Perfect 10, My Grandchildren”
Alice and John were down visiting from Atlanta when this moment presented itself. At one point they had made 10 sandcastles, but I still preferred this spontaneous swimming pool shot as they proudly displayed their ages!
Neil Deegan: “Bamboos and Morning Glory”
The bamboos have been ravaged for 10 years by nature, including hurricanes, but have survived and grown stronger. The Morning Glory, though it appears frail, has also survived and prospered. The plants inspire the vision of a corporate entity, pressured by political and business events, emerging changed but stronger after 10 years.
Patricia Treusch: “In the Beginning”
The theme is 10. What could be more appropriate and nostalgic than a photo history of the last ten years of The von Liebig Art Center? The journey begins in 1998 and continues through the current year.
The photos are from the archives of The von Liebig Art Center and the photomontage was created by me. I am the librarian and I have been here for 10 years.
