It’s the last day of summer camp at the Greater Marco Family YMCA. I cannot believe the season is over already! Friday, we will have a last day party with a DJ playing the hot hits and munchies galore.
Campers have a short break and then it’s off to school next week.
Summer camp 2008 will be memorable for the “Y” as it was the first year that we had three different camp sites.
Vince Iorio and his staff were in charge of more than 50 campers at Eagle Lakes. Ira Guerrero and her staff at Manatee Elementary had more than 190 campers registered and here at home base, Mike Cassio’s staff had more than 170 campers registered.
Specialty camps offered included theater, zoo, computer/swim, guitar, and strength training. The tennis department held classes for beginner and advanced students and Miss Dottie continued her swim lessons, as well as the ever popular British Challenge Soccer that returned for another successful session.
Scott Stewart Basketball camp was relocated to Marco Island Charter Middle School and Jessica Miller returned for Volleyball camp. School teacher Nicole Wood also returned for Cheerleader camp and Gina Sisbarro led a successful leadership training session.
Thanks and kudos to all the instructors, counselors and volunteers who made the summer camp 2008 a very successful one.
Now, it’s on to fall 2008 and programs offered at the “Y.”
We will have the ASPIRE after school program, fall soccer for K to fifth grades indoors, a 3 to 5-year-old instructional league that will play indoors, snorkel and SCUBA classes, and more swim lessons with Miss Dottie. Also, gymnastics with Kamel, aquatics, grade school swim teams, co-ed outdoor volleyball, spinning classes, an array of aerobic classes in the gym, out at the pool and in the portables and other programs that are to be announced.
Volunteers are also needed for the Y Reads! program at Manatee Elementary School.
Contact Jan Rotar at 394-3144 ext. 275 for more information.
There is something for everyone at your Greater Marco Family YMCA. Day passes are available or become a member Friday. Stop by for a tour. Your customer service staff includes Michael, Elliot, Sabrina, Mariu and Autumn.
Best of luck to Gina, Robbin and Abigal who are returning to school after working at the Y this summer.
We are located at 101 Sand Hill Street. Hope to see you at the “Y”.
