The Columbiettes are a recently formed auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus formed by mostly wives of the Knights.
As one of their first projects, they are collecting donations for the children at Tommy Barfield and Marco Island Charter Middle School.
In speaking with teachers at both schools, the Columbiettes found out that there are quite a few children at the school who come from poor families who struggle to get their children ready for school each year.
They went to the parish community at San Marco and asked for contributions and collected boxes and boxes of supplies, back packs and many more supplies, and then divided them between the two schools.
The Marco Island Charter Middle School could still use some cash donations to help families with uniforms and sneakers. If anyone would like to donate call Cathy Vergo at 377-3206.

"Underprivileged attending school on Marco Island" Would that qualify as an oxymoron?
