It’s back-to-school week on Marco Island and the activities at the Greater Marco YMCA shift from summer camp mode to ASPIRE after school mode. Think “summer camp” with just a little twist.

On Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending the Summer Theater Camp performance of “The Producers.” The play was held at the Marco Players Theater and let me tell you, the performers were fantastic.

The cast, headed by Noah Konkus who portrayed Max Bailystock and Josh Santil who was convincing as Leo Bloom, was just a pleasure to watch.

Director Gina Sisbarro is commended for her work in bringing out the actors’ capability and range.

The last week of summer camp ended with a party in the ASPIRE meeting room with music and dancing. I danced the cha cha slide with the campers. They were surprised at how agile I was — I am too!

Attention all parents! Now is the time to register for the following programs: Gymnastics, Little Kickers Indoor Soccer, Youth Indoor Coed Soccer, Swim lessons with Dottie, Am Aquatics, Swim Team, Family Saturday Snorkeling and /or SCUBA classes and the ASPIRE after school program.

The Y Reads! Program is still looking for reading volunteers at Manatee Elementary School. Call Jan Rotar at 394-3144 ext 275 to help out.

Other features and programs you ought to know about are: Personal Training and Fitness Assessments. These programs are in place to assist you in your physical training.

Did you know you can rent the YMCA pool, and arrange for private swim lessons?

The Greater Marco Family YMCA has eight clay tennis courts available for play. These courts are also available to non members as Round Robin play and private tennis lessons for children and adults.

Coming soon to the “Y” will be spinning classes and Co-ed Adult Volleyball. There is something for everyone at your Greater Marco Family YMCA.
