Dear Ted (Councilman Forcht); I must be away from Marco for about a month. Therefore, I won’t be attending any City Council meetings as much as I want to.
In my absence, let me write admonish you: No new taxes! You and your fellow council members must find a way to finance and operate Marco without first reaching into the pockets of your fellow residents. That’s the easy way.
I know from experience that going from private citizen to a position of power in government can be a heady experience, but unless our City Council members who too often seem to behave as neophytes (understandable, considering that being a first-rate public servant requires the years of experience in the trenches where they wish to serve, along with and some previously demonstrated intellectual depth).
It is my profound hope that all of our council members will soon be touched by the kind of divine guidance that will lead them to understand the difference between license and right and that, in this case, that to take on new projects without being certain they can be funded without creating unavoidable pain to the public are destructive at best.
Come on fellows, there must be some innovation and vision among you.
Howard Blankman, Marco Island
