Juan Portes slugged his 11th home run of the year, and the Fort Myers Miracle routed the host Lakeland Flying Tigers 8-1 on Thursday night.
Portes led off the game with a ground rule double and scored on Johnny Woodard’s single to put Fort Myers in front. The Miracle added two more on an RBI single by Wilson Ramos and an RBI double by Edward Ovalle in the third inning.
Portes made it 4-1 with his home run in the fourth, and Ovalle made it 5-1 with an RBI infield single in the fifth. Fort Myers tacked on three more in the ninth to put the game out of reach.
Miracle starter Alex Burnett (8-5) struck out 10 over six innings, allowing one run on five hits with one walk.
Relievers Carlos Gutierrez and Anthony Slama combined to strike out seven Lakeland hitters in three innings of relief.
The Miracle and Tigers finish off their three-game set at 7 tonight in Lakeland.
