The Naples Art Association (NAA) at The von Liebig Art Center presents the 2008 Faculty Biennial through Sept. 21 at the center, 585 Park St. in Naples.

The exhibition is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Suggested donation is $5 for adults and $2 for children 10 and older. Call 262-6517 or visit naplesart.org for more information.

During each even numbered year, the Naples Art Association highlights the work of its talented faculty instructors. This time, the event presents work in bas-relief, ceramics, drawing, ikebana floral design, mixed media, painting, photography, printmaking and Seminole patchwork. All work in the exhibition is by 26 instructors who are currently teaching classes at The von Liebig Art Center. Most of the works are for sale.

“The students who take classes at the art center appreciate the opportunity to see the work their instructors do,” said curator Jack O’Brien. “In classes, the instructors focus on the students and don’t discuss their own work. However, by the end of the year, the students know the instructors very well. Seeing the faculty’s work encourages the students.”

Some of the highlights in the exhibition include two sculptures for Phil Calabro.

“His work is in such demand,” O’Brien explains, “that he often doesn’t have pieces to exhibit.”

The work of Carmelo Blandino, a new painting instructor at the art center, is also presented for the first time.
