NFL fans start polishing off your crystal balls as the Marco Eagle swamis are back in action for the season.
Today, they predict how the season will end; who wins their conference, their division and the Super Bowl.
Beginning Sept. 3 they will give you a heads up on who will win the games that week. However, this week’s predictions shouldn’t be taken as serious as their weekly predictions.
None of the swamis, Dave Rice, Don Healy, Dottie Weiner or Roger Raymond, correctly chose the Super Bowl champ in 2007-2008. Of course, no one expected it to be the come-from-behind New York Giants.
This season the swamis start off by picking different teams as the Super Bowl winner. The farthest out might be Dottie Weiner, taking the New Orleans Saints, who were a letdown last year.
“Some might think I’m a little crazy, but I think they will rebound and be the surprise team,” she said.
Dave Rice, who won his fifth swami title with an accuracy rate of 66 percent last year, chooses the Cowboys to win the Super Bowl.
Don Healy sees the Colts and Payton Manning winning the big one.
Roger Raymond says the New England Patriots step back up in class to win the Super Bowl again.
Of course Healy has a disclaimer.
“Of all the tasks that I do, this is one of the most difficult because predicting the future is not one of my few remaining talents. There are so many opportunities for injuries that this is a stab in the dark.”
In the AFC East they all take New England even though the Jets have former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Brett Favre. Healy thinks the Jets are the wild card in the conference , but doesn’t think they will make the playoffs.
In the AFC North the Pittsburgh Steelers get the nod from all, as does Indianapolis in the South and San Diego in the West.
The swamis don’t get together in NFC Division choices.
Weiner takes Dallas in the East, Seattle in the West, Detroit in the North and New Orleans in the South.
Rice takes the Minnesota Vikings in the North, Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the South, Cowboys in the East and Seattle in the West.
Raymond says it will be the Cowboys in the East, Chicago Bears in the North, Saints in the South and Seahawks in the West.
Healy rounds out the picks by taking the Giants in the East, Green Bay Packers in the North, the Saints in the South and the Seahawks in the West.
When it comes to the AFC champs, Weiner says San Diego dumps New England.
“San Diego looks pretty good in preseason,” Weiner says. “I’m just not sure about Brady’s status as being healthy the whole season.”
Raymond disagrees, going with the Patriots.
Rice says New England comes out on top.
Healy agrees with Rice and Raymond.
In the NFC, Rice says Dallas just has too much talent.
Raymond agrees, as does Healy, who actually prefers the Giants.
Weiner says it Seattle and New Orleans for the NFC title and the Saints win.
In the Super Bowl Rice takes the Cowboys over the Patriots.
Raymond goes the opposite, taking the Patriots over the Cowboys.
Healy goes with the Indianapolis Colts over the Cowboys, while Weiner has the long shot, New Orleans beating Seattle.
