The Art League, Marco Island’s Center for the Arts hosts an art exhibition entitled Art: Make Your List & Check It Twice, now on display.

This exhibit features works in a multitude of media and was selected from 75 submissions by artists who are members of the Art League, Marco Island’s Center for the Arts. The theme of this exhibit is open, and the focus for the artists is to encourage appreciation and awareness of the arts and instill a message of value for the visual arts.

As a juried exhibition, award-winning artists will be recognized at the opening reception, which has a holiday theme and is open to the public. The event is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., today. The exhibit runs through Dec. 31.

Included in this exhibit are some of the more commonly known media such as watercolor, oil, acrylic and pastel painting, clay, photography, including digitally manipulated photography and sculpture. Other media used to create works in this exhibit are:

Beeswax collage: This is a mixed media art form in which beeswax is used as the adhesive and sealer for the collage.

Ferro-cement: This is a composite material used in sculpture with cement, water and wire or mesh. Ferro-cement has great strength and economy. It is fireproof, does not rust, rot or blow down in storms.

Fused glass: Most contemporary fusing methods involve stacking or layering thin sheets of glass, often using different colors, to create patterns or simple images. The stack is then placed inside the kiln (which is almost always electric, but can be heated by gas or wood) and then heated through a series of rapid heating cycles and holding the temperature at a specific point until the separate pieces begin to bond together.

About the juror

This exhibit was juried by Dr. Sarita Rainey, an artist/author of numerous art books from drawing, painting, sculpture and photography to art history and is part the faculty at Edison College.
