Microwave fire leads to $35,000 in water damage from sprinklers

MARCO ISLAND — A fire which began in a microwave at Crystal Shores the morning of Dec. 11 was quickly extinguished by the property's sprinkler system, said Marco Island Fire Inspector John Armstrong.

He said the accidental fire was put out prior to the arrival of fire crews.

"Fire damage was minimal and water damage spanned from the fifth floor to the ground floor," Armstrong added.

Damage was about $ 35,000.
