Literally fed up with her eating habits, and carrying the damning evidence to the tune of 216 pounds on her smallish frame, Debra Flinn decided to put her foot down.
Both feet, actually, as she doggedly set about completing a 66-day walk from her Cape Coral home to Dandridge, Tenn., where she and her husband own a vacation home.
For Flinn, the notion emerged as she delved into her religious faith one morning over a cup of coffee.
“I would eat eight egg sandwiches in one sitting,” Flinn wrote in a recent book on her marathon walk experience.
“I had gotten in trouble for eating a whole loaf of bread that was supposed to be for the whole family... so eating has been my drug of choice all my life.”
Flinn’s 850 mile walk has inspired her to organize something similar, this time inviting other women to join her on a two-week walk in March from Cape Coral to Kissimmee. She has dubbed from Desperate to Disney.
Flinn, who has aligned herself with Subway, will be at the Marco Subway in the Island Plaza off Collier Boulevard Thursday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to sell autographed copies of her book, From Desperate to Dandridge.
Also, she’ll happily talk to any women interested in joining her on the trek to Disney.
She will also supply details on costs and accommodations, as well as provide details about two sponsorships each worth $4,000.

Debra is to be congratulated. Though I've never had a weight problem, I know a lot of people who have. Check the homepage of my friend and co-worker from Chicago who has lost close to 200 pounds over the last two years.

How did she do it? The old-fashioned way, diet and exercise, mostly walking! So I would say Debra is on the right track. And yes, I walk four miles every morning, too.
