Week 5 was a real blast (pardon the pun), a holiday reference for you who didn’t get it. The theme for the week in the three through six grade camp was “Holidaze.”

Monday we celebrated the Fourth of July by the wearing of the red, white and blue. Tuesday was “Christmas in July” and all the campers wore red and green or holiday-themed clothing. Wednesday we revisited Valentine’s Day by wearing pink, red or white and Thursday was “Halloween” with the campers wearing their favorite Halloween costumes.

All during the week was activities that revolved around the theme day. Field trips scheduled throughout the week included visits to Eagle Lakes Park and the Sun & Fun Lagoon Needless to say, the campers had the best week of summer camp yet.

Week six, which starts Monday, will offer campers a full weeks worth of games and activities. The K-2 theme is “Holidaze,” quite similar to the three through six grade themes from last week. Three through six grades will examine in depth “Decades of Pop Culture” – the who, what where and when of each decade from the rockin’ ’50s to the nifty ’90s. Day camp Field trips to the Aquatic Center & Park, Hollywood 20 Theater and Shy Wolf Sanctuary are scheduled and on July 11 there will be a mock wedding at the “Y.”

Specialty camps are in full swing with Leadership Training Session 1 starting July 7 and Strength training Camp on July 8. Connie’s Temp camp classes begin July 9 for Tiny Tots and Little Slam and July 10 for Slam and Mighty Slam Junior. You can still register for these classes at the customer service desk.

Upcoming camps and classes that are still open to register are: Swim lessons with Dottie from July 14-24 and Aug. 4-14 and Leadership Training Session 2 from July 21-25. Theater camp has 2 sessions available, the first starts July 14. The production is “Hercules.” The second session starts Aug. 11 and the production is “The Producers.” Zoo Camp starts Aug. 4, All Skills Volleyball Session 2 scheduled for Aug. 4 and Session 2 of Strength Training for Aug. 5. British Challenge Soccer starts Aug. 4 and Lee Brovitz’s Guitar Camp begins July 14 and Aug. 4 with Camp Rock scheduled for July 28 and Aug. 5.

Well, it’s time for me to get back to camp. Have a great week and look for me at the “Y.”
