Christmas season might seem a long way off when the outdoor temperature is 94 degrees … but not for the Marco Island Christmas house and business decorating contest committee.
These community-minded volunteers held their first meeting of the 2008 season at the home of new committee members Judy and Larry Sacher to begin planning for the year’s contest.
In addition to the perennially-popular house decorating contest and the business decorating contest, this year features a new category.
It is the shopping center contest that will involve entire malls and plazas.
Judging teams will visit all centers on the Island and pick the best.
Sponsors this year include Lee County Electric Cooperative (LCEC) and Marine Bank.
The schedule of events:
Dec. 8 and 9, preliminary judging from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Dec. 12, final judging from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Jan. 3, awards presentation and family buffet at Sanitasole from 6:30 p.m. onwards.
The meeting, chaired by David Rice, included Jeanne Rice, Mike and Carla Mickes, Bob and Carol Boland, Marty and Debbie Roddy, Ann and Dick Niess, Donna and Jim Rohrbach, Paula and Richard Robinson, Dottie Wiener, Nancy and Joe Carrington, Ken and Susan Kubat, Diane Aruta and meeting hosts Judy and Larry Sacher.
