The Marco Island YMCA 2.5 team is USTA Region Tennis champions.
The team had to knock off a Charlotte 2.5 team to win the title.
They won the matches 3-0 and 2-1.
The Marco team advances to the sectional championship in Daytona Beach on Aug. 8.
Members of the team include Joanne Gardner, Lori Lopez, Autumn Golden, Jeanette DeNicolo, Jane Schwarz, Betsy Conte, Nancy Sroka and Laura Carney.
Linda Kleitch, Region 7 USTA chairperson, congratulated the team that has played together for nearly two seasons.
“I am very proud of you representing USTA Naples in the USTA Florida Section Championships,” she wrote in a letter to Gardner. “You should all be jumping up and down. Your chances of winning the tournament are great.”
Kleitch also cited the quality of the team’s coach, Connie Kormanyos, YMCA tennis director.
“Connie is Collier County Tennis, without discussion,” Kleitch said. “She has created and developed more state champions in this particular level of play than many in our area that have gone on to national championships. Please listen to her guidance and knowledge.”
