The Gulf Coast Little League readies for post season play after having its annual closing day ceremonies.
“It was another spectacular season,” said Tony Feola, league president.
Feola, from Marco, presided as every player received a participation trophy. They also enjoyed the bounce house, obstacle course, while having Sno-Kones, cotton candy, hot dogs and drinks.
Many of the players and parents enjoyed tossing baseballs and dunking the coaches, including Dave Flowers and Curt Whitoff of Marco Island. Flowers’ A team made it into the semifinals of the Southwest Florida Minor A Tournament that involved five Naples Little Leagues, totaling more than 40 teams.
Some 175 girls and boys participated in the league on baseball and softball teams.
The league will field a 9-10 All-Star team and a 10-11 All-Star team in a tournament in June that will feature the best Little League teams from the Naples area and the state, Feola said. He expects that many Marco players will be involved.
The Little League Board of Directors include Feola, Tom Leithauser, Mike Nojunas and Diane Ronquette, all of Marco and Maggie Gates, Tony Gates, Cindy Mysels, Pete Gibson and Andy Wiltsie of East Naples.
