Company Name: Marco Island Small Engine Repair

Owners: Craig Jones

Company Location: 47 Front Street, near Condee Cooling & Electric

Years in Business: 10 years. Jones took over six months ago, but has 25 years’ repair experience

Number of Employees: 3

Products and Services: Repair of all gardening equipment, scooters and any items that have small engines. Also, the company repairs things like ceiling fans, sewing machines and domestic appliances that are hard to find someone to work on, says Jones. Included as well are electric drill repair, welding services and the ability to modify and fabricate parts for common engines

Contact Number: 389-0200

Hours: 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, and 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturdays.

Company Goals: To continue to expand the company’s services to meet the needs of local islanders. Jones says it appears there’s a vacuum of people on the island capable of repairing a wide range of equipment. If it’s something a little off the wall, they turn you away, he says, adding that his motto is if you break it, I’ll fix it

Comment: “At the moment, I’m working on a big marine gearbox, something many local repair people wouldn’t look at. As an automotive coach builder, I acquired a diverse range of skills, from cabinet making to sheet metal fabrication and mechanical reconstruction. I’ve lived on Marco for the past five years (Jones and his family are formerly from Australia), and am really enjoying the American culture and society, and becoming a part of the local community. If I look at a (work) problem, I think I have a better ability to think laterally about a solution” — Craig Jones
