MICA: Don’t go away! You have it all here!

It’s on our minds and we can’t live without it, but we can live with less of it. What is it? Gas, of course.

The perfect solution to the gas and vacation quandary this summer is to stay put and enjoy what we have right here in our own backyard — our stunning beach!

A friend recently traveled to another beach town in Florida for a mini-vacation. She told me the story of how they got all situated with the sunblock on, chairs positioned and Jimmy Buffett serenading them.

Thirty minutes into the beach experience, they began to look at each other with questioning faces. Where was the air? Where was the breeze? Well, they only lasted an hour and the long trek back to the car through the hot, scorching sand was almost unbearable for those who left their flip-flops in the car! They truly were thrilled to get back to Marco and are looking forward to their next trip to the beach on our little island.

At the Marco Island Civic Association, we expect extra attendance at the Residents’ Beach this summer. A Residents’ Beach membership offers you an unsurpassed beach experience each and every time you come through the gates all at the low, low cost of $130, which, by the way, is about the cost of two tanks of gas! The family membership is becoming a better deal as each day passes.

Take a weekend and pretend you’re on vacation. Treat Marco Island as your island getaway! Spend a day at the beach. Sit under a chickee and read a book. Bring a bag of charcoal and have an old-fashioned family cook out, complete with hot dogs and hamburgers. Play a game of beach volleyball. Why not ride your bikes to the beach and have lunch at Paradise Grill one afternoon?

Wouldn’t you agree that if we have to be stranded somewhere without gas, Marco Island is a wonderful spot in which to be? We’ll certainly never be without a vacation living on Marco.
