Man charged with inhaling intoxicants
A 50-year-old man was arrested Tuesday morning after Marco Island police officers say they found him inhaling chemicals outside of an arthritis clinic.
James Edmund McKnight, 1289 Martinique Court, was charged with inhalation, ingestion of harmful chemical substances.
Around 8:30 a.m. police officers responded to the intersection of East Elkcam Circle and Barfield Drive for reports of a man inhaling chemicals outside the Dax Arthritis Clinic, the Sheriff’s Office reported. When officers arrived they found McKnight sitting on the ground with a blue bicycle holding a rag over his mouth with one hand and a can in his left hand.
The can was marked "Ace Hardware," though reports do not say what chemical was in the can.
McKnight was dazed and confused, and had difficulty standing, police said.
