Art League, Marco Island’s Center for the Arts, continues the Summer Wine and Art Series from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on July 1 featuring a variety of wines in addition to the opening of a special exhibit of art by Angelika Kade.

The Summer Wine and Art Series is an opportunity to experience a taste in wine and art. Guests will have the opportunity to sample three to six wines, enjoy some palate pleasing hors d’oeuvres and engage with this month’s featured artist in residence, Angelika Kade.

If you were unable to meet Kade at Orion Bank’s Artist Appreciation event earlier in June, this event is a must for you. A special installation of her work will be on exhibit throughout.

Admission to each event is free for members of the Art League, Center for the Arts, with a $5 admission for guests. The series takes place at the Lauritzen/Rush Galleries of the Art League Center for the Arts, 1010 Winterberry Drive, Marco Island. Visit www.marcoislandart.com.

ANGELIKA KADE:

“Sculpting has become an obsession and a passion for me. Sculpting is a process which requires a constant dialogue between the characteristics of the material on one side and the thoughts and ideas of the artists on the other side. Only strong-willed individuals will succeed and are able to maintain and conclude this dialogue.”

Being a very progressive and dynamic woman, Angelika Kade’s route to direct carving was not necessarily direct. After having started in fashion design, working in several major cities in Germany, Kade’s curiosity for anything artistic made her venture into different fields — designing jewelry, silk painting, and large scale acrylics as well as mixed media. While her innovative mind was always looking for new challenges and possibilities to express herself, it was the discovery and exploration of stone sculpting which quickly received her full attention and commitment. After attending several workshops in the United States and in Italy, where she could work with high skilled carvers, Kade had found the basis to self-educate herself both in all carving techniques and of course sculptural transformation of her artistic ideas. Working in various materials, mainly alabaster and marble, Kade’s work is based on figurative basics. In the creative process the work may remain figurative or may develop into figurative abstract. Next to the human figure, “wings” and everything “angelic”, as well as mythological themes are reflected in her work.

Angelika Kade, born and raised in Germany, is married and has three children and resides with her husband in Naples. While having absorbed the many traditions and the great art of Europe while growing up and during many visits, her mind remains in continuous search for the artistic progress. She is a member of the National Sculptural Society and several Southwest Florida Art Leagues, including the Art League of Marco Island. Her work has been shown in several exhibits both in Europe and the United States and is appreciated by both private and corporate collectors.
