“Serenity” by Adam Schultz is the ArtQuest 2008 sculpture on exhibition at The Studio Gallery at 1103 Bald Eagle Drive in Old Marco. The artist says “I decided to create a sculpture that would reflect historically iconic architectural elements, be suitable indoors and out, and convey a sense of peace to the viewer. This deco-style swan has proven to be a success on all counts. From the sweeping majesty of the gesture, to the classic patina, ‘Serenity’ can stand on its own as a timeless example of fine art today.”
Schultz, a Detroit native born in 1966, moved to Loveland, Colorado, in 1987, where he discovered his true calling — pursuing a career as a sculptor. Creating images in the timeless medium of bronze was especially appealing to him.
“Art not only reflects the heart of the artist,” he says, “It also provides us with a flavor of the times in which we live. I’m communicating with the people of the future.” Bronze sculptures are sometimes the only surviving records of ancient cultures. “I like to think that someday, archeologists may uncover my work and gain a clear idea of today’s society.”
His bronze and stone sculptures have been placed all over America. He has been commissioned to sculpt animals, portraits, memorials and monuments. His body of work ranges from miniature to monumental and includes figurative subjects and wildlife as well as contemporary works.
ArtQuest is the biennial feature event of the Marco Island Foundation for the Arts, Inc., a 501(c) (3) all-volunteer charitable organization. This exhibition, which continues through April 15, includes 17 sculptures by artists from far-flung locations such as Switzerland, Maine, New York, and Colorado. Several Florida artists are also represented. All of the sculptures are for sale. Details can be obtained from Juan Munera at the Studio Gallery: 239-394-5452. The ArtQuest 2008 guide and map is available at any of the sponsor’s locations.
