Looking to clean out your house or condo and get rid of unused items? Is your kitchen overloaded with unnecessary housewares? Now is the time to rummage through and donate ‘gently’ used items to Wesley United Methodist’s rummage sale that will take place from 8 a.m. to noon, Saturday, in the Fellowship Hall.
According to Marsha Whitlock, the proceeds will go to the Finance Program of the church. She also stated that large appliances, shoes or clothing will not be accepted.
The dates set aside to bring your items to the church are Thursday, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., and on Friday 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“Unsold items we be donated by the church to St. Matthew’s House. I have them scheduled to pick up what we don’t sell in the afternoon,” Whitlock stated.
This is Whitlock’s fifth year in running the rummage sale.
“People from the church are amazing. They just jump right in and come and help. We have no special committee. I basically make all the phone calls, planning, get the permits, and whatever else is required,” Whitlock said.
The church had been doing rummage sales previous to Whitlock’s arrival on Marco Island, but hadn’t had a sale in several years. When she came to the church, she was asked to do a rummage sale and has been doing it every year since.
“They really run quite smoothly. Once you’ve done it quite a few times, people know what to do and enjoy doing it and have a good time as well. It’s amazing that every year, we manage to have enough goods to have to sell and we manage to have enough help,” Whitlock explained. “It’s a pleasure and people really have a good time and ask ‘Are we going to do it again? Are we going to do it again? It’s a lot of fun. People actually look forward to it,” she continued.
Whitlock also stated that she has a small core group of people who help every year, but each year new people just come and help. So mark your calendars for this event.
