Another week of places to go, things to do and people to see.

The week kicked off on Sunday with the third edition of the “Shark of the Park” competition at the Marco Island YMCA skate park.

Over 300 people showed up to watch more than 40 skaters compete for trophies and other prizes.

Monday, we went to the St. Patrick’s Day party at Cathy’s O’Clarke’s Irish Pub and Grill. The $5 donation to enter the grounds went to the “Y”. Thanks to everyone who donated their time and dollars.

Thursday night was Stan’s Roast at the Marriott. The food was great, the roasters were very funny and Stan himself got a big kick out of all the remarks made about him and his restaurant and bar in Goodland.

Today and Easter Sunday the YMCA will be closed. Regular hours are scheduled on Saturday (7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and then back to normal on Monday (5 a.m. to 9 p.m.)

Next week the schedule remains as busy as this week starting with the Healthy Life Lecture Series at Mackle Park on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The topic is ADD. Be sure to attend this interesting lecture.

Thursday, the “Y” will be attending the Marco Island Chamber of Commerce Business Expo at the Marriott from 5 to 7 p.m. Stop by the booth and say hello.

The “½ way to Halloween” dance will be held March 28 in the “Y” gym from 7 to 10 p.m. All 6, 7 and 8 grades are encouraged to come dressed in costume and compete for prizes for best costume. Radio shack of Marco Island is donating iPods to the winners. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

The month of March will close with Dottie’s Duck Derby. This aquatics fundraising event will be held March 29 at 11 a.m. rain or shine. Buy your duck today!

Program registration continues for the Sony-Erickson Tennis tourney. Bus trip is scheduled for March 31.

Spring Adventure Camp starts March 31 through April 4.

Summer camp starts June 2.

Order your Mothers Day cake now at the Customer Service desk. Partial proceeds go to the “Y”.

Water exercise program starts March 31.

The YMCA has many aerobic programs available throughout the week that start at 4 p.m. We have Kickboxing, Pilates and other great programs that you can attend. Check the schedule out on the Web site at www.marcoislandymca.org.

Don’t forget to renew your membership. If you don’t know the expiration date, we will be glad to look up the information for you.

Well, have a great week and if you have not been to the YMCA here on Marco Island, please stop by and I will give you a personal tour. We are located at 101 Sandhill Street off San Marco Road. The phone number is 394-3144.
