Entertainer Stan Gober is having a fund-raiser today for Ereck Plancher, a former Lely High star football player, who died following conditioning drills at the University of Central Florida on Tuesday.
In the middle of a roast honoring Gober for his talents and community-mindedness on Thursday night to benefit the Marco Island YMCA, Gober announced he and sons Russ, Steve and Jay wanted to do something for the Plancher family.
Funds will be raised from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at Stan's in Goodland.
"I understand the young man was a tremendous person and that the family might need some help with funeral expenses," Gober said.
"I'll do my Yankee Dollar Dance and have a 50-50 to help the family."
Stan created the song he sings while people give him a dollar or more each that he has given to many charities over the years. With a little nudging he will toss in his Buzzard Lope for additional contributions.
An initial autopsy conducted on Wednesday failed to reveal a definitive cause for Plancher's death. Further tests will be required, which will take several weeks to complete, the District 9 Medical Examiner's Office in Orlando reported.
A visitation is scheduled for 5 to 9 p.m. on March 28 at the First Haitian Baptist Church in East Naples and a memorial service will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on March 29 in the Lely High School Auditorium.
