Students of the Marco Island Charter Middle School were treated to a hot dog lunch on March 20. The middle school’s travel club hosted the lunch as a way of showing its appreciation for student support and to celebrate the end of standardized testing.

Parent volunteers prepared 700 hot dogs, enough to feed the entire school.

The travel club sold hot dogs during the school year to raise money for its trip to Washington D.C. next week.

Parent sponsor Lisa Meurgue said the hot dog fundraiser, along with Saturday morning car washes, brought the price of the trip down from $900 to $600 per student.

Meurgue estimated the club sold 200 hot dogs per week to students.

The travel club will leave for the nation’s capital Thursday and return March 31.
