My sides still hurt, my jaw muscles ache, my knees are weak and my feet hurt. These are all symptoms of uproarious laughter and running around greeting folks.
All of us who attended Stan’s Roast last Thursday night at the Marriott Resort and Spa are suffering from this malady.
A capacity crowd enjoyed great southern home-style cooking and good natured ribbing of area restaurateur, singer extraordinaire and philanthropist Stan Gober.
It was great to see all the people honoring such a fine fellow. The roast master was Bill Morris and Johnny Angel was hilarious as the emcee for the event.
The roasters included area radio and TV personality Joe Klimas; book author and publisher Wade Keller; from the Country Music Foundation, Mr. Jeff Walker; Marco Island Police Foundation President Jack Patterson and the event co-sponsor and owner of the Marco Rose River Marina Mr. Bill Rose.
Although the roasters comedic talents were at their peak, Stan took the prize as his rebuttals were superb.
Thanks to all who attended and a special thanks to Stan and his family for being so good natured and also assisting the YMCA in our Capital Campaign fundraiser.
Tuesday night I attended the next Healthy Life Lecture series held at Mackle Park. A capacity crowd listened to a doctor discuss Attention Deficit Disorder.
Last night I went to the Marco Marriott Resort & Spa set up and manned the YMCA booth at the Marco Island Chamber of Commerce Business Expo. A lot of folks stopped by to say hello and in doing so got a free guest pass for their interest.
