Well, it didn’t take the newly seated council very long to let constituents know they’re in a spending mood.
How is the council going to pay the freight for purchase of LCEC’s service to our Island? And if we should find the city in the electrical power business, who will pay for it? Perhaps the new members (as well as the old) have an answer.
A bond issue? Citizens still foot the bill. An increase in electricity costs? Citizens will still foot the bill. An increase in the tax base? Guess who pays that. Or perhaps an assessment of say, $20,000 for changing the billing.
When cityhood was proposed years ago, one very effective argument was that Collier County looked upon Marco as its cash cow. Perhaps the council has decided to follow the lead of the county, and sees their kingdom as a cash cow. But who cares, right? They have been elected and are free to do what they wish, the citizenry notwithstanding.

Dear Mr. Rush: I see by your opinion above that you are very fast to "rush" to judgement. You seem to have all the answers. So, let me ask you, what have you heard that would make you write the opinion above ?? I read that some Council members wanted to study the economics of this concept. And in that same vain, maybe you could answer how much would you and I save if this concept actually became a reality. I am not for or against this, but since you seem to have all the answers, please let us all know how much this will save each of us or cost each of us. If you don't have this information, shut up and try to allow yourself to have leadership that has foresight and at least wants to look into ways to keep our costs down, if that is in fact the case.
