Sheffield Drive detour scheduled on Marco
According to a notice from the City of Marco Island, on Friday, Sheffield Drive will be temporarily closed at Sunset Street South. A detour is scheduled, beginning at 7 a.m., to guide through-traffic to San Marco Road for a two-block section between Covewood Street to the west and South Floral Street to the east. The construction work is scheduled to last all day on Friday and, depending on progress, will likely continue on Saturday and potentially Monday.
This temporary daytime-only closure will allow construction crews to install gravity sewer and manholes near the intersection of Sunset Street and Sheffield Drive. Construction trenches will be filled each evening and the street reopened overnight. Local residents will have access to their homes at all times and delays through the area should be minor. Local traffic on Sheffield Drive will be able to go around the barricades at Covewood Street and South Floral Street only as far as Sunset Street in either direction.
– Sheffield Drive residents east of Sunset Street should access Sheffield Drive from South Floral Street.
– Sheffield Drive residents west of Sunset Street should access Sheffield Drive from Covewood Street.
– Sunset Street residents will need to use San Marco Road for access.
Sheffield Drive will be reopened to traffic each evening as soon as work is completed and road conditions are safe. Residents and others traveling through this area should be cautious, drive slowly, and obey all flagmen and signs for their own safety.
